Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing

Known as the “Coca-Cola” route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well established route. Many favour the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, due to its more gradual slope.

This is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals. Where accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts, the Machame route offers strictly tents only. This makes Machame (also referred to as the “Whiskey route”) better suited to the slightly more adventurous hiker, however rewarding him with a scenic splendor such as not seen on the Marangu route.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Shira Route – Duration: 7 days / 6 nights:

Machame route is regarded as the most scenic of the trails up Kilimanjaro. You ascend gradually through the forest till you emerge onto the Moorland of Shira Plateau, from which there are superb views of the Kibo Peak and the Great Western Breach. Travellers through Machame route sleep in TENTS. Machame route is also the most challenging / adventurous route up Kilimanjaro.

Day 01: Board shuttle bus from Nairobi at 08:00am and proceed to Arusha arriving at 14:00pm. Depart for Moshi at 14:30pm arriving at 15:30pm. Overnight at the Buffallo hotel in Moshi.

It takes about 5 days to climb Kilimanjaro, which is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest extinct volcanoes. Any physically fit person can climb it. No climbing experience is necessary. The mountain climb can be in any month except during long rains in April and May. The best months are January to March and August to October usually with cloudless days. There are two peaks:
Mawenzi-5149m and Kibo–5895m.
